Depending on natural resources is one of the best ways to avoid creating further complications to the human body. For a simple headache we immediately depend on a Tylenol. If we have a cough we expect to get instant relief by depending on drugs. When we experience, any other pain or discomfort in the body, our first reaction is, “How can I get rid of this pain this very second?" and we try extreme methods which only may give instant relief but leave behind some unknown, hidden reactions which may fructify into greater illnesses years later.
There is no doubt, medical science is still evolving and bringing better methods of cure and has certainly done good to human health. In the end, everything becomes a matter of argument about belief based on scientific evidence.
Humans, like animals also have a natural instinct to find the right cure. Nature has provided this inner instinct not only to plants, animals, insects and birds, but also to human beings. Every seed of consciousness residing in different species on this planet is constantly going through process of evolution. This evolution mainly belongs to the ‘higher intellect’ of every being. We all adapt to changing conditions of climate, social behaviour, laws, physical and mental health etc.
Now, probably it is time to revise our daily habits of eating, drinking and sleeping which plays a major factor in our physical and mental health. Holistic science says, the root cause of all diseases lies in the sub-conscious mind. You need to uproot the cause to cure the ailment. Alternative medicine (Ayurveda & Homeopathy etc.) and Allopathic medicine can move in parallel directions trying to bring better methods of cure without side-effects. But first, we can at least try to reform our personal habits and try using simple home remedies to keep diseases away as much as possible.
Drink Sufficient Water
Drinking sufficient water every morning in empty stomach is the perfect way to start your day. I was suggested to do this by a friend of mine when I was 18 years old. I was asked to drink 1 litre of water before brushing my teeth and was ensured that I would put on a little bit of weight and also look healthy. I followed these instructions and there was profound improvement in my bowel movement in the morning, and slowly I started to realize that I put on weight with no excess fat in any region of my body. My facial skin started to glow with no pimples. My energy level in the body also increased.
How To Use Plants With Medicinal Value
1) Cloves – Cloves, one of the spices has great medicinal value apart from food recipes. When facing toothache, one can take a piece of clove and place it under the relative tooth. In case problems with gums, cloves work perfectly fine, although it’s a temporary solution till you visit your dentist. If you face dryness in your throat due to cough, take one piece of clove and place it in your mouth and you will feel much relieved. My mom always used to ask me to chew on cloves in case I faced nausea, indigestion or flatulence. Some people even make clove tea by boiling one teaspoon of clove in a cup of water for ten minutes, mix honey and let it simmer. This is extremely effective for indigestion and flatulence. Clove is not to be taken in cases of diarrhoea
2) Cardamom – Cardamom is known to be one of the best remedies for nausea. Whenever you are on a trip to the mountains and driving on those curvy roads which create uneasiness in the head and makes you feel nauseated, all you need to do is keep a few pieces of cardamom with you and start chewing on them. Cardamom milk tea is also considered to be a very good remedy for removing flatulence, intestinal gas and stomach cramps. People suffering from respiratory allergies can depend on cardamom regularly. Cardamom also helps you increase appetite. Note: Please drink a glass of water before a cup of hot cardamom milk tea, or any kind of tea, as tea or even coffee is known to increase acidity.
3) Cinnamon – Cinnamon has great benefits on the digestive system. The Indian food recipes like Pulao and Biryani use Cinnamon very generously, as it possesses a nice aroma and also carries an element of sweetness to it. It is very good to chew on a small piece of this spicy stick when suffering from nausea. Cinnamon tea is very famous and is genuinely used for improving digestion and benefiting cold.
All you need to do is remember the three C’s of spices, Cloves, Cardamom and Cinnamon. All three benefit the digestive system, nausea, cough and cold. In case you face indigestion, boil your milk tea with a mixture of all three C’s. You can grind them in a mixer and use a pinch of this powder when making tea and enjoy the aroma and spicy taste along with health benefits. You can find the best quality of the 3 C’s when you travel around Munnar and Thekkady in Kerala, Kodaikanal and Ooty in Tamil Nadu and some parts of Karnataka. The 3 C’s are grown vastly in the mountains of Kerala and Tamil Nadu, and you also get to smell the fresh aroma when travelling around these plantations which are grown almost in every home in these regions.
