When the whole world has been witness to the horrendous pictures of the two-day old tsunami and earthquake in Japan, there are a few stories which come up from such life-threatening and traumatic events which give us an inspiration to live. How does one cling on to life when death is staring at their face? Is it destiny to continue to live or is it time to die? Is death a fate or can we avert death? The clock stops on its own when it runs out of battery too.

Did this 60-year old man from Minamisouma avert his death by clinging on to a tin roof for two days? Minamisouma was one of the worst towns from the intense earthquake, which saw the death of thousands.

There was a survivor spotted by the Self Defence Force, at the sea when this old man was seen floating on the roof for two days. As soon as he heard about the waves hitting the shore, he got back home immediately to collect something, but had no time to escape the washout.

As for now, according to different news sources, the death toll from the recent tsunami and earthquake seems to be crossing the 10,000 mark.

News update: 2,000 bodies found in Miyagi. Explosions at nuclear plant increases global concern. The cooling system failed in the third nuclear plant of Japan, causing a hydrogen explosion, early Monday.

I don't believe it's survival of the fittest DM, I believe some were just lucky enough to survive.

Thank you, David. I used this term not in its literal sense. It was just meant as "who is fit and who is not in the eyes of destiny" ..
