India has seen a 90-year freedom struggle against the British Raj. Today, incredible India is seeing another freedom struggle and this is the struggle for independence from corruption. The politicians have held the common citizen at ransom for too long and things have gone too far. The boiling point of the pressure cooker is about to blast. God bless the Indians have followed the peaceful way of protest. Thanks to Anna Hazare for having led us to the other end of the tunnel where we finally see a glimmer of light shining into a new path of truth.

Months back, I had tweeted, “I want an India not with Bengalis, Tamilians, Kannadigas, Kashmiris, Oriyas, or Andhrites. I want an India with Indians.” I received a reply immediately from a fellow-Indian who said, “It is a dream worth dreaming.” This dream which was worth dreaming has become a reality when every single Indian is starting to walk out the door to bring a change in the system.

What started as hunger strike by Annaji has become a fighting cause for every single Indian not only in India, but also all the Indians living in America, Europe, Australia and the world. Indians have been sending messages from all over the world and marching in groups to prove their solidarity against corruption which we have been fighting for the past 64 years since independence.

Winston Churchill was unwilling to handover the reigns to the Indians, but finally when he did, he said that the power will go in the hands of political goons and the country will be filled with internal squabble and corruption. He was right, and it did happen. But he didn’t see something beyond that vision of “India” which the British Raj had forced India into.

India is moving out of the skin of corruption and going through hibernation and every citizen wants a change. New Delhi, Kolkatta, Mumbai, Jalandhar, Kashmir, Bangalore, Hyderabad, Chennai, Chandigarh – name any city and the people are out on the streets with candles in their hands and shouting slogans “Gali gali mein shor hai, mera neta chor hai.” – This means “There is noise in every lane that my leader is a thief.”

People are wearing t-shirts with the slogan, “My leader is a thief” to paint the politicians’ faces black. Even a school girl as young as 10 or 11 years says, “I am sure these politicians don’t love to be called corrupt. I believe that they will come out with a good solution and put an end to corruption.”

Everybody says, “Enough is enough. We will not tolerate this anymore. We will fight corruption to its end.”

Volunteers are fasting for 54 hours to support Anna Hazare all over the country.

The telecom minister said Kapil Sibal said, “Who is the outside man to take part in government decisions? We are the government and we make the decision.”

But Anna was quick to reply, “How can you say we are the outside men? The man who sits outside is your master. He is your boss because he has elected you. It is because of his vote you are sitting on that powerful chair.”

It is time that democracy shared 50% of the power with the civilians and they have a say in the decision making process of the nation. This is the time to exercise true democracy and yes, we will teach them a lesson. We will snatch our power and fight for civilian rights. We will bring a change in the system. We will transform the system. That is what every single Indian has been saying and we are all one today.

All the states and union territories of India are standing united peacefully. Each Indian says, “We are not asking for anything outrageous. All we are asking is to strengthen the anti-corruption laws and accept the draft suggested by Anna.”

Anna says, “I am not asking you to accept the draft for my personal pleasure. It is the people who are asking you (the government) to accept the Lokpal Bill draft.”

The need of the hour is for the whole nation to support Anna Hazare and that is what we all are doing. We are supporting his cause by joining hands and forcing the government down to us. The government says, “We meet half-way”. NO WAY! That is what Anna says. He says, “You accept our demands or else I will not give up my fast.”

For 64 years we trusted you, we gave you complete freedom to exhibit your laws and bring political reforms and you have been sleeping and fooling us. But today, we are not going to accept a single word you say. But you will listen to US and do as WE say. That is what has been the cry of every single Indian.

Art of Living Guru, Sri Sri Ravishankar who is in Germany right now spoke to the news channels and said, he was happy to see the hour has come finally. Democracy belongs to the people and it is high time the politicians learn a lesson and realize that people are not fools. He also said, 100 people must multiply into 1,000 and slowly increase in numbers and continue with their peaceful protest.

This is the second freedom struggle for India today and history is born.

Dalai Lama said Mahatma Gandhi is his Guru. And therefore he said, “India is my boss because this is the land of non-violence. So, India is the guru of non-violence. ” Anna Hazare has lived up to His Holiness Dalai Lama's words. The protests are peaceful, the police are not interfering and there hasn’t been any call for emergency from the government.

I hope the need will not come for that and the government will accept our demands and stamp corruption and punish every single politician who has been involved in different scams in the past.

Inspiring stuff, Shyam. I've always thought of India as the country of non-violence. This movement is like a beacon of light for the whole world.

Thank you, Jennifer! We are still tolerant enough in spite of the different communal clashes which have occurred in the past. Non-violence is what we love and we showed it. I pray non-violence becomes a religion too.
